From 2008 till 2011 Orgelpark Research took the art of improvisation as its main theme. The results are documented in Orgelpark Research Report #3, available for free elsewhere on this site. The project's final activity was the 2013 International Orgelpark Symposium.

A quote from the invitation to the symposium: 'Organ improvisation, or, to be less specific, improvisation involving the organ, has come to be recognized as an artistic discipline in itself during the last few decades. No longer related to religion per se, it increasingly reflects developments in a variety of different contemporary music scenes and, hence, musicological areas. At the same time, musicological interest in improvisation in general is growing, both as regards western and non-western music. Our symposium presents some of the leading researchers in this field, as well as the researchers of the Orgelpark Research Team, which forms the basis of our Improvisation Project.'
